A macaron is a sweet confectorery made with egg white, icing sugar and ground almonds. A macaron is then filled with buttercream or ganache filling sandwiched between two almond meringue shells. Its name deriveds from the Italian word "maccarone" or "maccherone". This word is used to refer to the ground almond which is the main ingredient.

French macarons are characterized by their smooth, domed top, ruffled foot and flat base. they are moist and easily melt in the mouth.

Macarons come in a wide variety of flavors and the traditional flavours are raspberry, chocolate, coffee and lemon. The filling is normally ganache, buttercream or jam.
